SheSafe Online

The “SheSafe Online” project strengthens the capacities, cooperation, and innovation potential of civil society organizations in the Western Balkans to prevent, recognize, and respond to technology-facilitated violence against women and girls. The project is implemented within the regional program “EU for Gender Equality: Economic Empowerment of Women and Ending Violence Against Women,” funded by the European Union and jointly implemented by UN Women and UNDP.

ASTRA – Anti-Trafficking Action leads the project, with ICT Hub serving as the technical partner responsible for innovation and digital components.

The project aims to help civil society organizations and support service providers across six Western Balkan economies identify digital violence in a timely manner and respond through knowledge, tools, and cross-border partnerships. Through hackathons, mentorship, and prototype development, the project connects women’s organizations' expertise with the tech community, turning it into concrete digital solutions that remain available to these organizations after the project concludes.

Project Activities:

  • Stakeholder mapping and regional coordination - identification of key organizations and institutions, and regular regional meetings
  • Sub-regional hackathons and ideathons - three events where teams develop solutions for the prevention of and response to digital violence
  • Mentorship and prototype development - technical support for selected teams, guiding them from the initial idea to a functional MVP (Minimum Viable Product)
  • Capacity building - training sessions for representatives of civil society organizations and service providers
  • Regional campaign - raising public awareness and advocacy regarding technology-facilitated violence against women
